True Stories From Penelope
The Penalty Yard Story
Here's a story about one of my students who stayed after
class to make a point. I didn't know about it until the next week.
It was the second week of class and we had done quite a bit of work on penalty yards in class. I had stressed to my students
the importance of not letting their dogs get away with pulling any more. We discussed places to use penalty yards, like
doorways, driveways, etc. I had not brought up the idea of just being able to get to the car without the dog pulling you there,
but one of my students apparently had a real problem with her dog and decided that she was going to nip it in the bud that night.
The next week in class she came up to me and proudly told me that it took her 30 minutes to get to her car that night without the
dog dragging her. She stuck with it and refused to give in and she was thrilled with the final results. " It worked
just like you said," she told me.
See what a little determination can do. Even the most stubborn puller can learn. All you have to do is last longer than the dog.
